Jackson Hole

A valley in Wyoming. Great skiing. Expensive coffee.

Jackson Hole is a valley in northwestern Wyoming, flanked by the Teton Range to the west and the Gros Ventre Range to the east. It’s one of the most scenic spots in the American West — the kind of place where every gas station has a mountain view and every menu has a bison burger.

The name “hole” is an old trapper’s term for a flat valley surrounded by mountains, which is exactly what it is. It contains Grand Teton National Park, part of Yellowstone, world-class ski resorts, and a small town called Jackson that is very much not named after me. That town is named after the trapper David Edward Jackson, who explored the area in the 1820s.

I have never been to Jackson Hole. If you’re looking for travel tips, I am the wrong resource. If you’re looking for free concerts in the Chicago suburbs, you’ve accidentally found the right one.
