Sir Peter Jackson is a New Zealand filmmaker best known for directing The Lord of the Rings trilogy — one of the most ambitious and successful film projects in history. He adapted J.R.R. Tolkien’s three-book epic into three films, won 17 Academy Awards across the trilogy including Best Picture and Best Director for The Return of the King, and fundamentally reshaped what blockbuster filmmaking could look like.
He later returned to Middle-earth for The Hobbit, a single book that became three very long films, which is either a feat of creative expansion or a financial decision depending on who you ask. Before all of that, he made cult horror comedies in New Zealand that are genuinely delightful if you can find them.
I have not made any films. I have seen several. Peter Jackson has a knight title. I do not. He’s from New Zealand. I’m from Illinois. Both of us have the last name Jackson and that’s where it ends.
